Helen Your Questions About Windmills

Helen asks…

Windmills?

Why are enviromentalists against windmills for energy. I live in maine and they’re trying to get it approved to get them put up here but there’s a big debate about it messing up the scenery. Isn’t this what the enviromentalists have been fighting for all along, alternative energy?

admin answers:

Yes, but “not that way” we’ve got to find a better way……until eveything is gone…

David Your Questions About Windmills

David asks…

windmills?

i have to make a windmill for school that lifts a weight. [the wind is produced by a fan.] how can i do this? any ideas?

admin answers:

Make your blades. Attach them to a shaft (about 6″ long) that runs parallel to the floor. Tie a piece of string toward the end of the shaft (securely). As the shaft rotates, the string will wind around it, lifting a small weight.
You may want to put some sort of barriers about 1″ apart on either side of the string. That way it doesn’t move too far along the shaft.
