Donald Your Questions About Windmill Farms

Donald asks…

What becomes of Windmill Farms at the end of their life span?

Windmill Farms are doting our countryside. As with all man made items they have a lifespan. As the steel in the bolts rusts as does the towers themselves and the turbines wear out who is responsible for their removal? Will the companies that built them foot the removal expense and environmental cleanup?

admin answers:

The “farm” doesn’t really have a life span. Just the windmills. So they could just replace as needed.

Old parts could be recycled.

Maria Your Questions About Windmill Farms

Maria asks…

Who approves of windmill farms ?

I live where they put up a windmill farm most people like them includeing me, the only thing is the energy is shiped out and not for our town. Our electric company’s fees have gone through the roof for the middle man and the corporations got a reduction. Do you think the electricty should be used in the town first at a lower amount of money because it’s here?
Or not? And do you think the middle man should get charged the same KWH used like the big companies?
I know what your saying about the charges but there is a nuclear power plant 30 min. from where I live that supplies us , kind of makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. I would love to get clean power from the windmills. The power from the windmills are shipped through the new lines they put in our town. I live not even a 1/2 mile from them, all I have to do is look out my front window and there they are.

admin answers:

Green power costs up to 4x the amount of regular power. So keeping the wind nearby would be no great deal for you. The electricity that is shipped has a delivery fee attached to it as it goes over the lines. Power lines are basically toll roads. Someone might generate electricity 700 miles away but that electricity will have to pay all the tolls as it goes the 700 miles. Because of this you electric company has an incentive to buy the cheapest electricity that is closest to you because they are not only paying for the electrons but for the distance they traveled as well. Don’t know where you live but they should be required to purchase electricity at the cheapest possible price. What this means is that your 10kW load at your home might be supplied by a cheap supplier who is 700 miles away even though there is a generator right next to you, while that generator might be sending power 70 miles to someone else.

Helen asks…

Why do environmentalists file lawsuits to block construction of solar and windmill farms?

admin answers:

They are all crazy, nuts, insane (!!) and the most hypocritical people on the planet. They want all of these thing, but don’t you dare cut down a tree or locate it where it can be seen. Heaven forbid that it put the life of the phanton lizard in danger too.

Also, if you decide to put something on your home that will make it more energy efficient it had better be hidden from site. I put in a solar water heating system and the panels had to be placed on my roof, behind my chimney and not on the side of the roof facing the road (even though that is the sunnier side) so it would not create an “eyesore”. I swear to God! These people are crazy.

Richard Your Questions About Windmill Farms

Richard asks…

Do big concentrated windmill farms effect local weather?

Explain your reasoning.
Ty Mr lynlions, of course, I am a contrarian: therefore I must have assumed that they knocked each other’s blades off…huh?

admin answers:

Of course anything the affects the wind by definition affects the weather, the question is to what degree.

My sense is that relatively little of the total wind energy is captured by the windmills, hence the effect on weather should be very small BUT there is always the butterfly effect…..

…there are cases where very small changes have very large consequence.
