What impact do windmills have on the rotation of the Earth?
There are lots of windmills popping up all over the world. Part of this new alternative energy movement. I was just wondering if they have any impact on the rotation of the earth. I imagine one windmill would have no noticeable impact, nor would 1,000. But what if there were millions of these things. Would that make a difference?

How do ancient windmills work?
ancient meaning windmills without generators for them to work. Windmills that grind grains, pump water and saw wood.

The wind turns the vanes (the things that look like propellers) and the shaft for that is connected via gears to a grindstone or turns the shaft of a wheel. The wheel would be connect to a rod that moves up and down and moves a piston to pump water of moves a saw blade to saw wood.
