How do you save energy on your computer without using sleep/hibernate?
Ever since I got my refurbished evga 750i sli mother board (biggest mistake of my life) my sleep and hibernate mode would sometimes give me a black screen when waking up… I’ve given up trying to fix the issue and am looking for an alternative… Is there a way for me to save energy with my computer WITHOUT using sleep/hibernate?
Sorry I meant other than shutting down…
admin answers:
Go into the advanced power options and update windows. Windows has an update for sleep and hibernation problems. My PC wouldn’t come out of hibernate properly and I tweaked the advanced power settings and windows installed an update. Now it works perfectly.

Install fluorescent lights (turn off when not needed), don’t leave your computer running all the time, keep cloths dryer lint trap clean, turn hot water heater temp. Down to 125 deg., programmable thermostat, make sure there are no gaps around doors and windows (insulate if there are). This is a small list, email me if you would like more.

What does your school do to save energy?
We are trying to figure our how our school can become a greener school, we need to find ways to save energy.
So far we got
changing to laptops instead of dino computer
Trying to change light bulbs (what kind though)
Dim lights more
Switching most of our electronics to solar power
Closing doors to save the heat
Making posters to remind students and teachers to turn off lights in classrooms after they are done.
Any other ideas?

Recylce all 1, 2, & 3 numbered plastics ( check ur city recycle center 4 guidelines); recycle plastic, aluminum, and glass; have staff, students and surrounding neighbors use the school to recycle their unwanted junk mail, magazines, cafe milk cartons, old homework, and copy paper (after using both sides of course).
Compost all cafeteria food to cut ur waste in half! Get the students to pick fruits at lunch (instead of huny buns) to maximize ur composting….. In addition less processed foods cut down on ur carbon footprint.
Eat local produce 2 cut down on ur carbon footprint that occurs during transport.
Drink water from the fountain or delivered spring water (it’s like buying in bulk to reduce on packaging)
use non toxic paint (expensive) for repairs and improvements—p.s. Some colorants added in the non-toxic paint base is toxic so read carefully I found out the hard way!
Purchase eco friendly office and school supplies like recycled paper, envelopes, and notebooks, and i’ve even seen eco-friendly glue.
And lastly, the most energy efficient lightbulbs are LED and they light up quickly (don’t need to warm up) and last longer, but they are also quiet expensive and u may not b able to replace all ur bulbs with them. Just remember with CFLs they contain small amounts of mercury so they must b recycled or that will get into our soil and drinking water. If the bulbs break clear out immediately, carefully clean the spill while wearing a face mask and gloves and double bag to dispose. If someone says it’s not that deep jus let em know that’s why they took mercury thermometers off the market. They were the most accurate, but the most toxic.
GOOD LUCK!!!

How should I optimize a Quad Core CPU so that it would save energy?
I’ve heard that Quad-Core processors use up lots of energy, and it became a concern to my electricity bills. I plan to upgrade to a Quad Core processor so that I can use it for heavy tasks. But most of the time I don’t do intensive tasks like video editing and such, I only surf the net and do simple work. How do I save power?
admin answers:
Go to bios and enable Speedstep technology.
Now your cpu will only go to max when needed,(when playing games, 3d apps….)
You can do another thing if you have windows 7 go to Start enter Power Options click enter. Now go to change plan settings and in new window “Change advanced power settings” Go to “Prtocessor power management. Min procesor rate 5%, System cooling policy-Passive (it slows cpu before increses fan), Max procesor rate -100% You can do that in Vista too, i think.

What are the best products to save energy costs?
I am trying to lower my electric costs. I heard energy star might save the most energy. I dont mind if they cost a little more to buy if they save more energy and last longer. Most of my electric cost goes for the entertainment center is there any plug in devices that I can buy to lower electric consumption on that? Thanks a ton.
p.s. I cant afford solar power right now thx

How to save energy on gaming computer?
Well, I’m thinking about building a gaming computer and i am wondering how to save energy on it,
by components, because so many graphic cards take up a lot of power to run a game like 750watts or more, like the new graphic cards coming out today, so do you people have any hints or tips on how i can save energy?
I heard that 80 plus power supplys only use how much they computer is telling them to run, is this true?
admin answers:
No single video card requires a 750 watt power supply. Even the 580 GTX only requires 600 w minimum
Your processor and video card have power saving features, meaning they will not be running full blast when you are not gaming
80+ power supplies are very efficient yes. I would recommend one with all higher end systems
