Charles Your Questions About Windmill Parts

Charles asks…

wat are the parts used electricity generating windmill?

admin answers:

You have a number of things:

1. Air foil of some sort (fan, propeller, etc).
2. Stand (to put air foil up into the wind).
3. Generator (to take the turning force of the wind and convert it to electricity).
4. Electrical conversion hardware. Most people put the energy into batteries for delayed usage or synchronize it to the power grid and sell it back to the power company. The conversion hardware you need depends on what you are doing with the hardware.

Betty Your Questions About Windmill Parts

Betty asks…

Is it true that you can make a windmill that generates electricity out of old parts of a dishwasher?

I was at this local factory on a school trip where they reuse old stuff people drop off to them and sell it as a way to reduce reuse and recycle (keep it green!) and they said that if you take out the copper coils in a old dishwasher you can make a windmill to power your home. Is it really possible?

Thanks
Thanks, that helps but I was was wondering, would it be possible to give me any links or sources of more info- but any info is great

admin answers:

Most electric motors can be converted into generators with some minor modifications. Here’s an article about converting appliance motors:

The windmill itself will be the hard part. Maybe you could adapt an old farm wind-pump. You’d also need to add some sort of transmission, and maybe a governor, to turn your home-made generator at a suitable speed.
