What is the name of that website that is like google?
I heard of this website that is a search engine that is like google, but it has a black background so it saves energy. Does anyone know the name of the website that I’m talking about? I can’t remember the name of it.

Although, I found that if you use the element search engine instead of google, yahoo or msn it works the best, in fact a lot better. It combines google and ask. Also, you will randomly be rewarded points just for using it which you can redeem to prizes.

Blackle – Saving Energy One Small Step at a Time?
Blackle.com is a search engine, powered by google, and just like google, except it only does website searches rather than pictures, maps, etc.
The thing about Blackle.com is it saves energy and helps our environment because it takes more energy to show a white/light screen than a black/dark screen. So basically, if you use blackle instead of google you help save energy. Hey, it may not be a big difference, but if you spread the word and more people know, the small step can grow into a bigger help to save energy and help our planet.

kcguy, I watched that video, and that wasn’t actually testing the energy the computer was using because of the page it was on, it was the computers charger, because the guy showed he was on a laptop. So that really just tested the computers charger.

No, I don’t use blackle.com but it makes sense; sorta. Here is what I got from the Blackle website. (Note:There is some skepticism to the claims below and the founders state such). I checked the Blackle.com website and I did a Wikipedia search, too. Note that”it (Blackle)is not owned by Google Inc.”.
“Blackle saves energy because the screen is predominantly black. “Image displayed is primarily a function of the user’s color settings and desktop graphics, as well as the color and size of open application windows; a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen.” Roberson et al, 2002″
“In January 2007 a blog post titled Black Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year proposed the theory that a black version of the Google search engine would save a fair bit of energy due to the popularity of the search engine. Energy saving?
Hello energy saving people. Do you use search engines alot? Well as much as i support yahoo, and love yahoo answers, i want to tell you about blackle. Its great if you already know, but for those who dont, Blackle is a search engine powered by google, that saves energy. The way it saves energy is It’s screen is black with wite riting, so it doesnt have to produce as much white and colours wich uses more emissions. This question will probably be taken off, because it supports google, so please tell all of your friends to use it, as they may not get to read this messate. This is about the enviroment, not supporting different companies in search engines. At least check it out, it shows how much energy it has saved.

Um, not even close. A search on google probably uses 1/10000 of a watt.

Why won’t Google change its homepage background to black?
The white background uses more watt energy then the black background. How come Google doesn’t convert its homepage to Blackle.com which is also the same search engine owned by google but uses less watt energy. If they convert Google to Blackle, then they would save not only watt energy, but also millions of dollars because they don’t have to run 2 search engines. What’s the point of Google anyways if you got Blackle?

Google probably does not want to change it’s branding as they have been using a white background on everything since day one. Blackle is not owned by Google either and they just use Google’s custom search engine technology… Another cool site is http://bGoog.com where you can Google in black on your mobile phone to extend your battery life and use less data to keep your phone bills down!

Warning on estimated power bills
Energy customers with estimated bills could be racking up debts of hundreds of pounds without realising it, according to Citizens Advice.
The charity says thousands of people have got in touch over their estimated gas and electric bills.
In the worst cases people have found they owed over £1,000 when they thought their direct debits were covering their energy costs.
It blamed the problem on spiralling tariffs and billing issues.

Why not just advise people to check their meters regularly to keep an eye on their own consumption.
The 2 comparison sites are good, unfortunately many people just don’t bother to look at them.
