Is using ac or a huge metallic gazz fan more energy saving?
I would like to know whether using air-conditioner at 25 degree celcius is better than having a huge metallic fan at power 1 or 2. For the electricity, you’d simply have to look at the 2 devices and their specifications, particularly look for how many watts/kilowatts. In general, the AC will use more electricity, but will do a better job of cooling you.
The AC cools the entire room, fans only cool people (the air speed over your skin increases, meaning the pressure the air exerts on your skin is lower, lower pressure means it feels like a lower temperature to you).

Where can I get lamp shades, etc for these new energy saving light fittings, they’re bigger than the usual 
These new fittings are bigger than the usual bayonet fittings so my light shades dont fit anymore
Could i have the name of this fitting so i can google it out, names of shops that supply shades for them and links to the actual product please

My new house came with these new fittings, they’re not the usual ones, they’re bigger, the bulbs use a 6 pin connection, does anyone know what this kind of fitting is called?

If you have a home improvement store (Home Depot, Lowe’s, Etc) near you, I’d recommend dragging the lamp in with you to see what they recommend. They might have a solution, or you may need to contact your lamp’s manufacturer to ask what THEY recommend.

firefox users – how can i change my search engine at the top of the toolbar?
to something that isnt offered in the add ons? i want to change it to “blackle” the energy saving version of google but i dont know how to since it isnt offered in the addons. can i even change it?

Click on the little arrow in the search bar and choose blackle. Search engines are automatically added to it once you visit the page, so you might need to go to blackle first and then you can change it to your default search engine.
Sorry, it seems that fire fox doesn’t have any add on for blackle, but fire fox is always updating and adding add ons, so you can try later. For the time being, you can set blackle.com to your home page, and you can add a bookmark button to your toolbar. It won’t be like having it in the search bar though.

You just don’t understand it. Just like solar panels save a lot of energy, how much energy is saved when we use nuclear energy….i probably still dont make sense to all of you but it makes sense to me (shrugs)

At least saves your eye sight. I did a comparison with blackle and original google search, the blackle didn’t seem as advanced (more links appeared on original Google than blackle). I think the method of inverting colors should be an option on all websites… Now about saving energy probably a really small difference.

Recently I found out about “Blackle” the “Energy efficient” Google. Now that I know that this saves energy by changing the site to black, I’d really like to do this with my WHOLE display. Is there any way I can do that?

If you are using an LCD monitor, Blackle actually uses more energy than regular Google. Due to the way an LCD monitor works, the color white is an un-activated crystal, while black requires a constant current going to that pixel.
Either way, the actual power usage of an LCD monitor is very small, and any difference is negligible.

I have also heard the same but it is only helpful for CRT monitors and with the change in technology CRT monitors are being replaced by LCD monitors. So i don’t think google will do so!
