Carol asks…
how many windmills/solar panels would be required to replace fossil fuel generators in the US?
In order to acheive independence from Fossil fuels like many want us to do. I was wondering how many windmills and solar panels would we need to generate the power necessary to be ‘green’. How long would we need to get such an infrastructure in place?
admin answers:
There is no alternative energy that will even come close to replacing fossil fuels.
You can add up all the solar, wind geo-thermal, ocean wave and any other alternative energy source you can think of and it would not equal 1% of what fossil fuels do.
The only real answer is to increase oil production in the USA right now and work on developing a new energy source for the future, because it could talke 20 years to come up with something.

Helen asks…
Does the windmills affect the speed of wind ?
Rows of windmills are used in various windy locations to generate electric power. Does the power generated affect the speed of the wind ? Would these locations be windier without the windmills ?
admin answers:
Yep! And if you breathe too much, you will need to plant some more trees to absorb all that EXTRA CO2 you generated! So, QUIT breathing! *laughter*
Don’t start buying that pap that the flap of a butterfly’s wings can start a hurricane if you place it exactly in the right place. It’s a bunch of pap.
Next thing you’re going to be asking everyone is, “Does the Space Shuttle’s launch affect earth’s orbit around-the-sun?”
It’s a matter of perspective, and people who USED to share your perspective believed that the earth was the center of the universe, and everything revolved around it.
You can “black box” it like another answer explains, and what he says is true, but what you’ve “black boxed” is such a TINY percentage of what’s happening en-toto you can IGNORE the effects of the windmills on the environment in terms of wind speed.
Now, don’t get me wrong! They DO kill a lot of birds. In THAT sense, they are affecting the environment.
Contrary to Algore’s teachings, the earth is NOT as delicate as he would have you to believe in all of his stupid movies, et al.
So, no. You can’t use this argument against installing them! If you do want an argument to use against their installations, explain how these things kill SO many birds! Go to ANY modern windmill farm and you should find bird carcasses all over-the-place around the fan.

Donald asks…
What are the differences between windmills and regular fans?
I know that they spin in the opposite directions;
& that the windmills are propelled by the wind.
but I need some more ideas.
thanks.(:
admin answers:
Most fans, except ceiling fans, are high speed devices used for giving air velocity. Windmills are intended to work with low speed air and develop torque for doing work. Thus the area as a percent of the circle of the blades and the angle of the blades serves different purposes. And nothing prevents a fan or windmill from turning in either direction.

Laura asks…
What should be done for a powerpoint on Windmills?
I have to do a powerpoint on windmills for my 10th grade class. I need about 10-15 slides. What should each slide be:
So far I have:
1-Title Slide
2- How wind works
3- Beginning history of the windmill
What should the other slides be?
admin answers:
You could do a few slides on uses, historic and present.
4: grinding flour, wheat, mustard seed.
5: water pump
6: electricity
Then if you want to focus more on electric windmills, you can talk about their varying size
7: home use (roof mount)
8: Large scale use (the ones that are really tall)
I think you should get at least a slide describing how a windmill takes the kinetic energy of the wind and converts it to electricity. This could follow your ‘how wind works’ slide.
I think you could come up with a few more.

Sandra asks…
How many towns are there in this world, where electricity is used only from windmills?
Windmills are a great source of electricity. So, I want to know how many towns are there using these windmills.
admin answers:
Even the UN office does not have this information.

Lizzie asks…
How do you hop your windmills?
I see kids at my school doing their windmills without their head or hands/arms.
TAhey just skip from shoulder to shoulder.
admin answers:
Maybe you need to swing your legs harder to get a higher momentum,so you dont have to use your hands.y dont you ask them to teach you??
