Robert Your Questions About Save Energy How Would You Like It

Robert asks…

Calculate the savings in a year…?

“Nationally, there were 217.8 million people age 18 and over, 35.9 million people age 65 and over, and 53.3 million children 5-17 as of July 1, 2003 according to estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau”

1. Let us assume to save energy, every adult in the U.S. replaces one 60 watt incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent (CF) of 17 watts. They produce the same light with less power. Calculate how many energy this would save over the course of one year. (you many use any energy units you like: joules, btu’s, kWh…)

2. Determine how many barrels of oil this would save.

3. Using the present cost of a barrel of oil, about $46, estimate the dollar amount of this savings.

4. Assume that the cost of a CF is about $9. how many bulbs would this savings buy?

5. It has been proposed by some that there could be a dramatic drop in U.S. energy consumption if such a plan were to be carried out. Based upon the calculations in this question, do you think this idea is economically feasible?

Steven Your Questions About Save Energy How Would You Like It

Steven asks…

Manny pacquiao is actually on something?

Can you believe it? He was a flyweight, that means he was 112Ib, and now hes 150lb? are you kidding me? thats absulute bullshit, this is 40 pounds we’re talking about here. I like manny as a fighter but all things point to him being on something, I hope someone can prove me wrong with facts, but this is why i think so.

1)do you guys have any idea how hard it is to gain muscle mass when you‘re training boxing? infact, I couldnt gain anyweight at all due to inefficient fats, and i started losing muscle mass because my body due to insuffient energy even though i was eating 4-6 meals a day + protein shakes, my fat percentage was %8, thats the least a boxer has, due to all the cardiovascular training we do, i can hardly manage to run 9 miles, he runs 12, just think of how much less fat he has than me, not to mention he runs probably more regular than me.

2) secondly, i used to be a bodybuilder before hand. Now with a perfect diet (that has no flaws at all) the maximum a body builder can gain (the ones who dont do cardio, or very little because you need fats to build muscle) is 10 pounds of muscle a year, and thats if you‘re a fast gainer, if you‘re genes are PERFECT, however,if you‘re a hardgainer like me the most you can get is 5 pounds a year, So it would‘ve taken him 4 years without boxing training and then probably 6-12 months get his stamina back and get ready of the fat percentage.

3) hes performance is amazing, you can compare him to sugar ray robinson too, ray always managed to stay focused and in decent shape til the last 15th round, and yes he did more rounds I understand so he probably had to save energy, but pacquiao somehow seems to have his brain on a different level than his body, what i mean is he starts to let punches in, but his body never seems to get tired, ofcourse that could be due to an amazing training by his coach, but that would take years to get a stamina like his, he moves around, and he follow with fast/hard punches and steps back to avoid a punch and steps back in, its just amazing, which would mean he would have to not follow the body builders guide to gain muscle, so he probably would have added only couple of pounds a year, if hes lucky. (body builders main aim is to get bigger and have a propotioned body).

Thanks for going through this, I would like to see you‘re opinions and facts on this topic.

P.S. I aint no hater, I infact love this guy.

Manny Pacqiao turned professional in 1995 when he was just a kid that was still growing and if you were to even you-tube his early fights you can clearly see he was way less mature and no where near as developed and mature as he is today. I fully understand this as I boxed as a flyweight (112 pounds) in amateur international competition and national boxing matches in 1994 and in 1995 by the time I fought my professional debut I was struggling to make 130 and eventually competed in the lightweight division where I always struggled to get down to 135 pounds because I had matured and filled out not because I took any performance enhancing drugs heck I wouldn’t even use caffeine.

1.) Your point is significant for yourself as you are going off how your body is, but every person is different and I know from personal experience that is exact opposite yours that you can train and even train harder and more efficiently that what you have and gain incredible amounts of weight as I went from 80 pounds in 1991 to 135 pounds in 1996 and outside of the fact I grew nearly a full foot in height I was physically stronger and had less body fat.
2.) I ask you just to look at the answer I gave for your 1st question because this should cover any more questions you could have.
3.) I agree with what you have stated in your 3rd statement I just do not see a question. He does get tired but has a great ability to recover just look when he fought against Margarito he was much the smaller man in the ring and at times was very tired but through his incredible ability to move and tie up he was able to play off how exhausted he actually was at times, that is just showing his amazing ring generalship and wits in the ring something that comes from years of training. There has never been a single shred of any evidence that Manny Pacquiao has ever used any illegal Performance enhancing drugs-if there was any it would be exposed immediately to the world and media everywhere!

Charles Your Questions About Save Energy How Would You Like It

Charles asks…

Do you think they would invent this green product anytime soon?

Since the world is starting to come out with energy saving products, it got me thinking. What if products that use outlet were now equipped with a greener plug that cut off the electricity source when you aren’t using it. Kind of like a breker. I am not sure how it would work since must things that use a remote need to have a little electricity to get the machine started but one solution to this is that there would be a small battery stored the plug that help some energy so you could turn it on and that open something to let electricity flow.

That way when you turned something of, it was really “off”. For big appliances such as washing machines this might save 5 dollars a year for just that machine and a few watts but with all the other big appliances we have at home this might help. If all appliances were switched to this, then millions of wyatts could be saved a year. What do you guys/gals think, do you think any invetor would make something like this soon?

Remember this is just a scratch idea not the whole idea but suggestions on how it could work are great!

admin answers:

You are on to a great idea in getting electrically run items actually turned completely off when they are “off”. Back in the day, we actually walked up to a device and physically turned a knob or pushed a button to turn an item completely on or off.

The problem that I still see with your idea is that if you keep enough electricity running through your plug/plug adaptor to work with a remote, you still won’t have all of the electricity turned off. But, you can effectively do the same thing by using a surge protector power strip and/or just a power strip between your appliances and the wall. When you want to fully power your appliance off, you will have to manually turn the power strip off; to turn the appliance on, you will have to manually turn on the power strip.

Still, this is not the ideal solution. The ideal solution is to have appliances and other electrical devices that do and/or can fully turn off. This would require a change on the design and manufacturing end. Today, many appliances have a clock in them and some require that the clock be running to function; completely powering them down affects their function. Culturally, we have come to expect our appliances to function off of a remote; we would have to have enough people willing to purchace appliances that do not power up via remote to warrant the manufacture of them. (It would be nice to be able to set a switch so that you had the option.) Many of us are very used to our appliances working on a timer type of function; again, there would have to be enough demand for a lower/older technology to warrant their manufacture. In terms of many media types of equipment, we expect the functionality that comes with the item being in a sleep versus a fully off mode. Also, some of the current designs lose time on their lives if they are fully powered up and down all frequently.

But, you are right – We can/could both save money and energy if more/all of our appliances were completely turned off when not being used. For many of us, saving $5/yr on the washing machine is not particularly a big deal. But, if we could save $5/yr each on the washing machine, dryer, stove top, microwave, coffee pot, and oven – the annual savings would be $30 which is enough that we could actually use that money. Still, it is the type of savings that we often don’t particularly notice in and of itself; but, when you stop the savings activity, it does start to be noticeable, – Particularly when they are combined with other savings activities. – The same could be said of the energy savings per household. BUT, if 100, 10000, 1 million, or 10 million households each did this little bit of savings the sum of the savings in terms of energy is significant.

Each of us doing our little part does count and is important. And, in large part this is what “going green” is all about. Each household doing their little bits to be more eco-friendly. Going back to getting appliances manufacturered with a true on/off switch will take enough individuals demanding or wanting that feature. One way to do that is to get enough of them fiddling with their power strips and then looking for an easier or more convient way.

Ruth Your Questions About Save Energy How Would You Like It

Ruth asks…

Please, rating and feedback on this writing…?

I’m struggling a little bit to find constructive feedback on my writing- friends just aren’t critical enough! I would welcome you, the yahoo ask public, to offer a rating (1-10) and opinions on the following.
A little context- this describes the death of the protagonists’ mother, who (unbeknown to the protagonist) has deteriorated considerably in her addiction. It is intended to have a tone of detachment, being an event that goes largely unnoticed despite its’ significance.

(The Snow Still Falling… p.87, The Roadhouse Victorious )

She went to sleep, as she often did, on the chesterfield in the living room. Norah’s theory had been that it made her feel more functional. She agreed. Not an invalid, curled up in bed, a dark hump beneath the covers in a room with the curtains drawn. Just lying on the couch, needing a nap.

Just a little rest, Rosemary had convinced herself on a February morning. It was Valentines day the next day. Best save energy, make a fancy dinner for Gary. She no longer remembered he was dead, nor did she realize that her lips were tinged with blue and her breaths more shallow than they should be.

Just a nap.

She was thinking slow, stumbling thoughts.

Should take some medication, I’m feeling ill. And tired, a nice nap will do me good, and I’ll be strong for Gary. Maybe they got him, though. I don’t know.

It had been a very long time since she heard from him, but she wasn’t quite sure just how long anymore.

* * * *

Outside, the plow roared and clanged by, bug-eyed headlights making it an oversize insect eating snow. The frost-painted windows rattled in their frames, and that fragile and wintry sound reminded her that she was cold.

A few extra blankets then, today. Wool ones.

Rosemary put a cup of tea down on the ash-covered coffee table but didn’t touch it. She sat sitting up for a few minutes, head lolling to the side, dozing off. The crunch of the mailman’s boots across the unshackled porch jolted her awake, she heard him swear under his breath. The lid of the mailbox squeaked when it was opened, shut with a sharp metallic clink. He crunched back down the steps, the front path, and away.

Better get that porch done soon.

She swallowed her medication without water, three white pills pressed with letters and numbers a little too small for her to read without her glasses.
.
Maybe tomorrow Norah will call again. For Valentines day. That’s my girl.

It took the very last of her energy to crawl under the musty wool of the blankets, to roll on to her side and curl up like a child in the night.

A few hours later, the strings of drool had dried on her face, crusty lines tracing down from the corners of her mouth. They were tinged brown with blood.

At eight o’clock the cat grew impatient, and begin to cry for it‘s food. It paced between the couch and it‘s bowl for an hour or so, all flicking tail and wide-mouthed meow before hopping back up on the window sill to wait in silence. She had been late before, and it could be patient.

The snow fell heavily that week, and three notices arrived at the house, each announcing that no mail would be delivered unless the premises were made safer for the postal workers. The porch still wasn’t shoveled, and mail stopped arriving.

A passing child thought he heard a cat once or twice on his way to school. He mentioned it to his mother, who squeezed his mittened hand a little tighter, and said she didn’t hear anything.

Snow drifts piled up in front of the house, obscuring the windows with white. The little house was pulling the covers up over it‘s eyes.

* * * *

After Rosemary missed two appointments, the authorities were notified. They forced the front door. One of them fell down the porch stairs and broke his tailbone.

Cause of Death was listed as Accidental Overdose.

The patient cat was thrown in the dumpster behind the house.

* * * *

On his way home from school, that same child took the back lane home, peering into dumpsters and looking for secrets. He leaned over the edge of one and saw a small striped body. Touched it with a bare hand. Enchanted.

The fur was so soft, mum- how could it be dead?

admin answers:

It’s beautifully written and I wouldn’t read any more of it. I really don’t go for the carefully literary style. Which may just mean I’m not your target audience…but if you were aiming for a general novel which is fun to read, this isn’t it.

Technical comment – “it’s” means “it is”. If you want “belonging to it” you need “its”.

Paul Your Questions About Save Energy How Would You Like It

Paul asks…

Why does my internet connection or loading slows down when I plug out my charger?

Okay here’s my problem, I love surfing and you know how we can get so caught up with it so we spend ours browsing thru our fave sites. Of course I plug my laptop when the battery or energy indicates low but I try to save energy as much as possible so i pull it out of its charger when it becomes fully-charged. The problem is that when I do that, my net connection becomes slow and loading pages would mean forever so i just re-plug it (like what I’m doing now).

Can anybody help me please? Is there a way to solve this? I don’t have any big cash right now so i can’t show this to my computer specialist/technician to inquire bout my laptop’s issues.

P.S.

And please, I’m like a dumbass into asking but where can I find the settings to make my touchpad work properly again? Its scroll up/down doesn’t work anymore.

Really it would be great if you could help me.thanks in advance.
My laptop is an HP Compaq Presario CQ42 268-TX and I just bought it last december. I tresolved my Bluetooth’s issues problems last night and yesterday, they were really issues on net connections provided by the network but it has been resolved already. My hard drive isn’t full and there are no unnecessary programs I’ve installed. please help me.

admin answers:

Adrian is right on the money.

Go into your power options and change it so when its off charger, it runs at max speed. However, doing so will shorten your battery time (from lets say 4 hours to 2). Run it on the charger (without the battery) to conserve the battery life and run at max speeds without having to wear down the battery.

Best of luck.
