Your Questions About Wind Generator Parts

Laura Your Questions About Wind Generator Parts

Laura asks…

What parts of a wind generator change kinetic energy into electical energy?

admin answers:

The winds spin the large external blades (the part that looks like a propeller), which spins the internal portion of the generator, which creates electricity.

Winds are kinetic, blades and internal turbine turn it to electrical energy.

Joseph Your Questions About Wind Generator Parts

Joseph asks…

how does a wind turbine generator work?

I think I’ve designed a new wind turbine and I need to start thinking about the generator part. How does an electricity generator work in this case and where might I procure one in the UK?

admin answers:

Well, by definition a turbine creates shaft work, which can then be converted to electrical energy through electromagnets.

Nancy Your Questions About Wind Generator Parts

Nancy asks…

looking to build wind generator in Zimbabwe. no idea where to get parts…. Help?

admin answers:

If you are in the states and plan on taking the parts to their destination, Norther Tools sells a unit, depending on how much energy you want to generate, there are other sites on line that sell all you need.

Lisa Your Questions About Wind Generator Parts

Lisa asks…

what are the materials and procedure in making a very simple and small wind turbine without a generator?

i can’t find the right words to ask but what i want is to know the parts and uses of a small wind turbine that can light a light bulb and that it depends on the wind not the generator. i want to make a small wind turbine that is handy and the parts are very affordable..it’s ok if it only produce a little amount of electricity…pls suggest asap..tnx in advance!!

admin answers:

Don’t bother. The bigger the wind turbine the higher the energy returned on energy invested ratio becomes. (in the same location).

You are definately wasting your time on a small wind turbine, you will not be able to power a lightbulb in the strongest of winds.

The way a wind turbine makes it’s energy is by spinning something which makes an alternating current, I have no idea how a direct current could be made by something spinning such as the wind turbine.

Sandy Your Questions About Wind Generator Parts

Sandy asks…

i want to make a working model of a wind mill generator capable of giving 9volts to light 3 leds?

wind mill generator working model producing 6or 9 volts volts Ac or Dc. suitable to light leds. The height of tower designed approxmately 70 or 75 CM. other parts should be propositional my estamate is with in 2500 indian rupees

admin answers:

I don’t know how much they cost in India, but I saw a good four-LED bar lit by a spinning (yarn) wheel using a LEGO motor as a generator. Your main concern should be gearing; most small DC motors used as generators need to spin very fast to get a high voltage. Your torque should determine your current. Also see KidWind for ideas.

James Your Questions About Wind Generator Parts

James asks…

Why DON’T States in the U.S. use Wind Mill Generators?

With all the fear of Terrorist attacking our Nuclear Power Plants, why don’t more states use Wind Mill Generators like parts of California do?

Please explain your answer.

admin answers:

They generate minimal power.

4 HP Briggs & stratton gas powered generator go cart conversion questions?

hello my question is can you turn a briggs and stratton engine with a milwaukee generator on it in into an engine for a go cart obviously with out the generator still attached it seems like the crank shaft is a little different from one like for a go cart but i could be very wrong about that anyways another question i had about this is how do i get the part with all the wires wound around it for the generator off the crank shaft i got most of it off but now i left with that still on my last q is i noticed that i didnt need any kind of throttle when i used it as a generator there is a part on the carb that looks like a throttle link or something but i never had to mess with it am i going to need a different type of carb i dont really know much about the engine the only thing on it was 4 cycle 10.4 CDI 171CC 4HP thank you

admin answers:

You might as well put the generator back together. Most generator engines have a tapered shaft and you need a straight shaft for the go cart. As far as removing the armature from the shaft, there is one bolt down in the center of it and you’ll probably need a puller to force the armature off the tapered shaft after you remove the bolt.

Linda Your Questions About Wind Generator Parts

Linda asks…

I’ve often railed against this “alternative” category in S&M. All these “paras” are just bunkum but …

is anybody out there serious about real, useful “alternative” science, “wind-up” radios, wind generators from old car parts etc?
Mikey : Thats alternative. Way outside the box but its real technology.
Sweety – Can’t really tie you down on this but are you trying to whip up a controversy?

admin answers:

Alternative in other countries means alternative medicine more than anything else.
I have hundreds of books on alternative therapies and value this category.
I am an Engineer by training and value the inventions of Trevor Bayliss who produced the first wind up radio for Africa.
