Will the use of roll-on plastic window film in the summer save energy?

Specifically, I was wondering if the use of plastic window film will reduce energy use and cost if used in the summer heat of Phoenix. Every blog, internet article and window film manufacturer site that I’ve read, mention it’s use only in the winter. Thanks.
