I want to buy stock in companies based in providing renewal energy?
On a recent trip to east TX we drove past a windmill farm. How do I find out which company owns these windmills so that I can invest? I trully believe renewal energy is the wave of the future.

Here is a link showing many of the operators of the wind farms in Texas: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_power_in_Texas
Note that the manufacturers of the wind turbines are also shown in the chart. Do you want to invest in the operators of the wind farms, which are utilities or sell power to utilities, or do you want to invest in the manufacturers of the wind turbines?
I have had very good success investing in two major wind turbine manufacturers, Vestas and Gamesa. You can see their track record on Yahoo Finance. These are foreign companies, but it is possible to invest in them through a U.S. Broker. Some other manufacturers, such as G.E., Siemens and Mitsubishi manufacture wind turbines as a small part of their business, but they are not “pure plays” in wind.
If you want less risk, there are now ETFs (similar to mutual funds) that invest only in wind, such as FAN, and there are an increasing number of ETFs specially in renewable energy, some of which have an emphasis in a number of wind energy companies. Such as PBD.

If I started an alternative energy company, would I make a profit?
I want to start an alternative energy company, that makes bio fuels, windmills and solar panels. Will I make money or loss money?
admin answers:
This is such a broad statement, it isn’t really worth answering.
All I can say is there is money to be made in the near future in the alternative energy industry. If you have a solid business plan and are a capable businessperson, you will be in for some good times.

Nipsco buying excess energy?
If someone produces their own energy with things such as windmills and solar panels and they don’t use it all, is it true that the energy companies have to purchase the excess energy from you?
admin answers:
Hopefully, I can be of some assistance. I work in the Communications Department for NIPSCO, and I recently came across your question. We have some information available on our website about the exact question you asked. Here’s a link (which is within the “Our Services” section under the “Connecting to the Grid” link on that page):

Hope this helps!

Is drilling for resources the only thing that can bring down energy prices?
Wind and solar require a government subsidie because companies can’t make money on them. So they tax the taxpayer and give it to an oil company who is making tons of taxpayer money putting up inefficent windmills. Hippies and their laws suck huh. So while we have more “clean energy” our grandkids are paying for it on top of the expensive price they make you pay. Alternative energy should NOT require a government subsidie, recognize.
admin answers:
Drilling solves little.
The current prices are a combination of an intentionally devalued US dollar, speculation and maliciously influencing prices.
We can drill holes from one side of the country to the other — it’s not going to drop prices as long as those things remain. Diesel in Mexico is roughly 50% less than it is in the US. Gas is as low as $2.41/gallon just south of our border. How come and why do you think drilling will fix that?

Carol asks…
Isn’t Nancy Pelosi and the Dem’s trying to get money into the pockets of Big Green?
By this I do not mean the Hulk. I mean solar, wind, and natural gas companies. We just heard that Pelosi owns shares of Clean Energy Fuels, a natural gas company. These environmental extremists also want windmills in every backyard and solar panels on every roof. This obviously benefits the companies making the products. So it is safe to say that Democrats want to get money into the pockets of their friends in Green Energy, no?

Algebra 2 summer math question?
WIND ENERGY : An electric company buys energy from ” windmill farms” that have windmills of two sizes, one producing 1.5 megawatts of power and one producing 2.5 megawatts of power. The company wants a total power supply of at least 180 megawatts. Write and graph an inequality describing how many of each size of windmill it takes to supply the electric company.
admin answers:
Assume that S is the number of smaller windmills
Assume that B is the number of bigger windmills
180<1.5*S + 2.5*B

If Republicans believe in energy security, then why are Republicans against individual landowners having the?
right to place small wind and solar installations on their properties?
The resistance to zoning ordinances for small wind installations in this country is ridiculous. We’ve had windmills in the US since the Founding Fathers. Many Aermotor company of Chicago windmills are considered collectors items and are worth thousands.
Shouldn’t individual property owners have the right to spend their own money on alternative energy if that is their wish?
Shovel Ready – birds flying into the rotors is not a major problem for small wind applications. The term “Small Wind” refers to windmills that are typically less than 60 feet tall and have a blade-span of less than 10 feet.
I live in an area that is overwhelmingly Republican and there was recently an ordinance passed banning all wind and solar installations within the village limits.
admin answers:
Anything that threatens the oil industry is bad for them, thus unacceptable. If more individual landowners realize that they can very cheaply produce their own power, then a lot of people who have grown fat off of oil money are going to be hurting financially as more people choose solar and wind energy.
And shovel ready- Dead birds? Really?? The world could become mostly energy independent, saving money and safeguarding the environment, and you’re worried about a few dead birds maybe falling onto your lawn? Who is cleaning up the pollution in the air and water from millions of cars and factories running on toxic fossil fuels? OH, WAIT.

Mary asks…
tax credit for wind energy?
I read up to 4,000 dollars for a wind mill. If I am going to get back 2,000 dollars already will I get 4,000 dollars if I get this windmill I have been thinking about? I know that a tax credit is different than a tax deduction. I know that if I owned 6,000 that I would only owe 2,000 if I got a qualifying windmill…. I just wonder if I actually get more cash if I spend the money to get a windmill. I found a company that sells the smaller 2.7 kw windmills and I would be willing to buy one if I got the cash from the tax credit. Let me know if you have the answer.. thanks
sorry for the spelling…
admin answers:
I’m not sure if there is a tax credit for purchasing a windmill and installing on your property. However, if there is, here is how it would work.
1. You purchase the Windmill for $6000.
2. If your tax credit is $2000, the $2000 will be refunded once you file your tax return. It is not an immediate credit.
You will need to see if this is a refundable credit (like EIC) or not. If your total tax liability is $1000, then your tax credit could be limited to $1000 if it is NOT a refundable credit.
