How does my turning off household lights save the planet?
I know it saves electricity and money, but how does it save the planet?
How is energy use hurting the planet? Is there really proof that the little extra heat is doing that much?
I know there’s wasted energy… But is it really that hard to get more? And if it is, where can I find more info on it?
Is it because of how electricity is harnessed?
Also relevant, when they say you save money to feed kids in Africa or what have you, is there anything leading environmentalists to believe that people would use their saved money for a good cause?

The most common forms of electricity generation used today burn lots of fossil fuels, which contributes to global warming and adds pollution to the atmosphere, causing things like acid rain and smog, which worsens (and may even cause, indirectly) conditions such as chronic bronchitis and asthma.
From a purely human-centered perspective also, the more fossil fuel-generated energy we waste, the sooner we run out of fossil fuels. In the end, it may not matter, if we are able to transition to renewable forms of energy in time, but there is a long, long way to go before the US and other developed countries will be able to meet its energy needs from renewable sources, and if we don’t make the transition in time the consequences could be very bad.

How do I save myself, my kids, and my relationship?
I need help. I don`t know what is wrong with me. I am 24 years old. I have three young children, ages 4, 3, and 9 months. I have the man of my dreams. I cannot be happy. I don`t know why. It seems impossible. I am always screaming at the top of my lungs. I flip out for no reason. I go from happy to pissed off at the drop of a dime. I have absolutely no energy. It takes every ounce of everything I have to get up to give the baby a bottle. I don`t want my kids to remember me this way. What can I do? I just want to shoot myself in the face…
I don`t have anyone supportive to be around. My boyfriend is at work but I don`t want to tell him how bad I am really feeling because I am afraid that he will leave me and take the children. Maybe that would be best though.

If you’re seriously considering suicide then you need to tell your boyfriend ASAP, regardless of the consequences. You may have depression, which is perfectly normal, especially being a mother of three small children. Go talk to your Doctor.

How to make an educational video for kids?
Hello everyone,
Please help me with this task: to make up a 1-2 minutes video (can be both a movie or a cartoon), aimed at teaching children (7 – 9 years old) how important is saving energy. Actually the company wants promotion.. They design and produce metering equipment, and want the video to tell about electricity meters as well.. so the idea is to connect the importance of precise measuring with energy saving, but make it fun and easy to understand for kids. And as little boring lecturing as possible.. The company has their own symbol, a guy looking very much like Pinocchio, they want to have it in the video as well. I have absolutely no experience in scriptwriting or filming, band to my shame have very few ideas by now..
If you have any ideas on a plot, or maybe you know what to avoid when making a movie for kids, please share it.. Thank s a lot!

LOL – if you have little scriptwriting or filming experience, I’d say to ask for a collaborator (someone in marketing/art). My best advice would be to find someone who could write a song (think School House Rock)/ The Santa Clara Valley Water District, where I live, puts out water conservation/water cycle/water treatment educational cartoons for kids and loans them out to local schools, so you might want to research what’s already out there.

Halogen Heaters?
I’m looking into buying energy saving electric heaters for my kids bedrooms – are halogen heaters the energy saving sort? Anyone have any other ideas to keep the chill at bay in bedrooms?
Thanks for that – halogen is off the agenda, but i’m sure there are energy saving fires (like you get energy saving light bulbs) or am i imagining it?
I only want something to switch on for half an hour or so when they are in their rooms doing their homework, it’s not something i intend to leave on.
My actual question was: are there energy saving heaters as there are energy saving light bulbs – i seem to have ended up with a discussion about whether it is wise to heat kids‘ bedrooms or not! Having said that i appreciate all the messages about safety and have taken note.

Halogen heaters in bedrooms is a no no.
Avoid any heating appliance with an element which is visible, ie fan heater or single bar electric fire etc.
The safest form of bedroom electric heating is a wall mounted panel heater. This type of heater can be purchased with a timer, which can be set to turn off or on at times you select. Say 1/2 hour after going to bed to turn off, and on 1 hour prior to getting up. It will also have a safety over-load cut-out which will turn the heater off in the event of over-heating.
Bear in mind that a bedroom should not be over-hot and it simply needs the chill air to be at a comfortable temperature, this will make for a more relaxed sleep.

Can you help me with a slogan?
My kids are trying to think up some slogans for energy saving for a school project. This is also to make kid aware of how important it is to save energy and its effects on the envirerment. Here are some examples we thought of. Save energy in our school, keep the heat level nice and cool!. Get on your feet and turn off the heat.
Can anyone think of some better slogans? Thanks.
